About Me

Ciao from Sorrento! Hi everyone! My name is Josie Toland, and I’m beyond excited to share a little bit about my study abroad experience with you. I’m currently studying at the beautiful Sant’Anna Institute in Sorrento, Italy, for the spring semester through the CIS Abroad Semester on the Italian Coast program, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice! I’m a junior at UMass Amherst, majoring in Journalism and Communication, and I also have a business minor. Being here has truly been a dream come true, and I’ve already had the chance to explore so much of this beautiful town, all while diving into my studies in a whole new cultural setting. If you’ve ever considered studying abroad, or if you’re just curious about life in Sorrento, I think you’ll find that it’s an experience you won’t want to miss. I’ll be sharing all the highlights, tips, and insider information about life here at Sant’Anna, as well as everything Italy has to offer. Trust me, you’re going to love it here as much as I do!

Stunning Location

The views in Sorrento are absolutely stunning. The town sits high above the Bay of Naples, offering beautiful views of the blue sea and Mount Vesuvius in the distance. Whether you're walking along the cliffs or enjoying a meal at a restaurant with a view, the scenery will amaze you. The peninsula is filled with walking trails leading to hidden beaches and lemon groves. My favorite trail is the one leading to “bagni regina giovanna” which is a beautiful viewpoint with a hidden swimming hole. Every time I step outside, I’m reminded of how lucky I am to be studying here in such a beautiful place.
